I'm convinced! El Paso has some of the most beautiful women I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Lucky for me, I get to meet them in my boudoir studio! The thing is, these women are not just beautiful and sexy, but they have a "sass" about them, a confidence that allows them to fully embrace their womanhood and all the wonderful powers that come with it. And I. Love. It!

Let me back up a little. We're not all like this (I know I wasn't for my own boudoir shoot three years ago.) ...But I have to say, if you can "fake it" and act like you are the hottest piece of booty on this earth...at least for this one day that you're doing your boudoir photo shoot, then it will definitely show in your photos! Confidence is undeniably sexy.

Three awesome things about this photo shoot!!!
First off, I was in New Jersey in November, hellooooo beautiful fall!
Secondly, A. was game to take some photos outside behind her home even though it was freezing out. (Pumpkin spice lattes were definitely involved in the making of this shoot.)
My third point is clearly obvious... A. is beautiful and has a gorgeous figure! I envy her abs.

This shot is all A. No photoshop required...

I died...In all honesty, I can't wait to move back to the east coast to get these gorgeous colors all the time!

I love this shot...adding jewelry from your beloved or something else that's personal and sentimental adds love to your photos...

Happy 2012!! | Vision Board

Happy 2012! I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season. Brad and I had a great time visiting his family for Christmas. After the board games, the hot chocolates, and the hugs, it's back to our life here in El Paso. And I'm ready to tackle 2012 with every bit of energy I have!

I'm actually quite embarrassed to admit that I've never put together an actual vision board, knowing how enthusiastic my sister is about them, but alas, I have created a virtual vision board! I plan on printing out a few copies and placing it in my bedroom where I do my make-up each morning and in my office! The more I see it, the more focused it will keep me.

I want to share it with you because I encourage you to make one of your own...(says the girl who procrastinated making hers...) Vision boards are a great way to stay focused and to decide what you want in your life, what's important to you, and what you want to focus on achieving. Vision boards stem from The Secret and the law of attraction which states, "what you think about, you bring about." You don't even have to know how you're going to get there, to your goal, just know that it will happen. In The Secret DVD, they use this analogy..."if you want to drive from LA to NY, you can only see 200 feet in front of you, but you know you'll get there eventually." That's always stuck with me...

Well, here is my vision board! I'd say my goals are big, general goals that will require lots of baby steps along the way. Some of these "goals" are things I already have in my life, and want to continue to keep. Some are intangibles that I want to surround myself with all the time like the feeling of being in love and having a great family life with our children down the road.

Baby Chloe | El Paso Baby Photography

There's nothing better than being asked by a client to come back and take more photos! This time, it was Chloe's first Christmas photos with her family. I first photographed Chloe in September, and she made me melt! Such a sweet baby... Chloe was just as perfect this time around.

The highlight for me was when we stepped into the beautiful claw-foot tub in the master bathroom. Chloe must loooove bath time and bubbles. I love this photo...it's all about her cuteness. Too adorable! I think all babies should have pictures taken in a bubble bath. It's just too sweet!

Love & Boudoir | El Paso Boudoir Photographer

"Believe me! the photo shoot is on my mind every day and I am totally excited about it! Can't wait to meet you!!" When I sent S. a confirmation e-mail a few days prior to her boudoir shoot, what I received in return was enthusiasm and excitement! As a photographer, there's nothing better than that! And on the day of the photo shoot, I got even more. I got a beautiful woman who trusted me when I asked her to imagine that when she looked at my camera, she was looking at her man's eyes. I listened to this very real woman tell me about her daughter. She told me what each of her tattoos stood for. And she told me about her "could be a movie" love story.

Most of all, I think I started a friendship, at least a semi-professional, one with a gorgeous woman, inside and out. I learned a little bit about her beauty on the inside...and you can certainly see how beautiful she is on the outside...

You know me! I love my black and whites. I love the contrast between her dark eye liner/eye shadow and the light color of her lips...LOOOVE it!

The sunlight was streaming in pretty hard, but I didn't mind it so much...I think it gives a little something to the photo rather than if she was in perfectly even light...

S. has her man in Afghanistan right now, and if I were him, I'm not sure how I would handle the next few months being away!

After my photo shoot with S., i decided that if for some act of God, he wanted to turn me into a red head, I would be totally okay with it!!! So fierce!

Baby Julian | El Paso Newborn Photographers

My husband and I met Angie and Julian when we first moved to El Paso last June. (They actually live three houses down from us!) Over the past year and half that we've known them, we've had lots of great times becoming good neighbors and even better friends. You can imagine my excitement when Angie announced her pregnancy! How fun to be so close to a little babe! More importantly, for Julian and Angie, Baby Julian is the answer to their prayers. Not only is he a healthy baby boy, but he is absolutely beautiful with a head full of jet black hair!

I'm so happy to photograph this little man...and I'm sure it won't be our last photo shoot!

Mo & Jackie | Santa Teresa Wedding Photographer

He pointed to a painting of Michelangelo's, "The Creation of Adam," and said "this is important, if you can get it into the photo." Mo directed my attention, and I continued to shoot. I didn't know why it might be important until about 20 minutes later when Mo and Jackie were exchanging heartfelt messages to one another in front of all their family and friends.

Simply put, Michelangelo created masterpieces...and Mo wanted Jackie to know that when she had made her way down that aisle just minutes before, she was a part of his masterpiece. They were creating a life together that was beautiful and unique, full of different brush strokes, where each one stood for something different in their lives. Whether it was studying at 3 AM for the next exam at U-TEP, or adopting four siblings who needed loving parents.

And for that...Mo and Jackie are the most deserving couple to have "won" their wedding. On Valentines' Day this past year, after entering a contest with Power 102 and Kara's Bridal, Mo came into the radio station that morning completely unaware that his sincere letter won him and Jackie a dream wedding day...

"...My girlfriend of 4 years and I are in the process of adopting 4 kids abandoned by their mom. We were once saving money for a wedding, but now that our lives have changed, our goals have also...While the process that we are going through is long and difficult, we would not change a thing! The joy that we have gotten from our decision and knowing that we are making a difference in 4 lives has and always will be worth it...If we could have an opportunity like this to have a fairytale wedding, it would mean the world, especially because I believe that she (Jackie) deserves the world..."

Needless to say, Mo and Jackie are extremely self-less and extremely loving. Their warm hearts are reflected in the friends and family that surrounded them this past Saturday as they became husband and wife...and I was honored to photograph their love...

Aaaand about the "Groom's cake"...it was hilarious and such a cute idea. Jackie here, has invaded Mo's land and is going to hunt him down! So fun...and delicious. =)

I love to photograph babies. Each one has their own personality, especially once they reach about three months. I'm sure it is just so much fun to watch your own child develop and observe their personality, whether they are mellow and observant, or lively and vibrant! Such was the case for this very smiley 6-month old baby girl...

Baby Isabella came to me smiling and ready to go! She's a baby girl on the move and almost crawling, but with the help of her favorite toys and some shiny christmas ornaments, she showed off her pretty little smile and was a true baby model!

Oh my goodness, every time I see this photo, I can't help by smile and laugh. She's so fun!

She is such a beautiful baby...look at those lashes!

I absolutely love my job, and I'm so blessed to be doing more baby photo shoots recently! These next photos are of beautiful, little Kaya Rose. I think Kaya was a little skeptical of me when we first started her photo shoot, but as soon as we went outside --it was so warm in PA that day!--I was "okay" in her book! We joked that her dad will be building her a tree house if she loves the outdoors so much!

New Love | New Jersey Baby Photographer

I'm almost afraid to start typing this blog post because I know the tears will come soon after. It's just so incredible how a new baby in the family can make you feel. They're so tiny and little and helpless, and they have no idea of the power that they hold over you. Granted, I'm not a mother yet, and I'm sure the feelings are much stronger, but even as his aunt, I would do anything for this child.

And so, my first duty as Atreyu's photographer-aunt was to take his photos! There will be many more photo shoots for this little chubby baby in the year(s) to come, but that thursday afternoon, these photos were just enough...

Here he is four days before his one-month birthday!

He has the most plump lips I've ever seen on a baby...soooo sweet...

This next photo was actually taken when Atreyu was just three days old. My sister was taking a nap with her son, and I couldn't resist...

Personalizing Your Boudoir Photos | El Paso Boudoir Photography

"What should I bring?"

I get this question all the time from my boudoir clients. I always appreciate it when you bring your favorite bra and panty set, some lingerie and the traditional sexy things, but there's a lot that I can do with "props" that mean a lot to you.

Whatever it is that you and your significant other are into, we can certainly incorporate it into your boudoir photo shoot! For example, R's husband is big into a particular soccer team. She snuck out a scarf of his that dons the team name, and we used it to wrap around her petite frame.

We did the same with the team flag...

R. also loves music and her viola. I absolutely love how these photos came out. Very personal and very sexy. To me, instruments=smart and smart women are hot! I'm sure R's husband feels the same way...

And as I mentioned before, the lace, silk and satin unmentionables are traditionally sexy for a reason...

R., thank you so much for allowing me to share your boudoir photos! R. was married 4 months and 1 week ago, and her boudoir album was her wedding day gift to her husband. Needless to say, he has an absolutely adorable and beautiful wife by his side!

Curves and Red Hot Lips | El Paso Boudoir Photographer

Oh, it's been so long since I've gotten permission from a client to post boudoir photos! But alas, lovely N. is willing to share her sexyness with all of us! N. came in to do her boudoir shoot so that should could give the boudoir album to her husband on their wedding day. And they actually celebrated their 1 month anniversary yesterday, so congrats to them!

I had first met N. at a bridal show last year, and when she said "I will have to do this," I knew I'd be seeing her again! Lucky for me, N. brought her curls, very sexy curves and red hot lips to her boudoir photo shoot...and a few unmentionables.

She is absolutely gorgeous, and one of the sweetest women i have ever met. Her beauty on the outside is a very true reflection of her beauty on the inside.

We started off with her white lingerie...seems innocent, but those eyes might tell her Mr. something different...

A little flirtyness with her veil...

And then N. threw on this outfit along with some fire-red lipstick...

All I have to say is that it's sooo fun to be a woman. And I love my very fun and sweet clients!

Little Miss Janiyah. From this slide to that swing. From this tree to chasing after the little boy. She knows what she wants, and no one's going to stop her...all in her little black boots.

I got to meet Janiyah and her parents by being referred from a past client (love that!). We headed over to the park just as the sun was setting to have some fun. J's father will be deploying soon, so we made sure to capture Janiyah in her element--having fun! It's good to be 2. =)

I tried to put a new, modern spin on the "photo with a tree." I love the branches in the background on the above pic, and the texture of the bark adds a little something extra on the below photos.

Sweet Baby Chloe | El Paso Baby Photographer

Sweet Baby Chloe was so much fun to photograph! Through the laughs, smiles, a few tears and lots of hugs from her Mom, Chloe was a perfect lil' baby model.

One thing is for sure, I will always love to photograph babies! They are just sooo adorable...

I can barely handle her cuteness... Look at that little hand.

This beautiful and very soft blanket was hand-made just for chloe by one of her grandmothers. I'm so happy we got to incorporate it into the photo shoot.

Two years ago on this day, I held hands with my husband and vowed to love him for eternity. I vowed to take care of his heart, and to let him take care of mine. I vowed to be there for him emotionally, spiritually and physically. To go through life with him is a gift. He's my everything, my all, and I feel closer to him now than I ever have before.

I'll keep this short and sweet, so here is one of my favorite moments from our wedding day...

We were just about done taking our bride/groom photos, and we stopped by a little gelato stand (in Morgantown, WV on High Street). We were taking a break from the day to enjoy a sweet scoop...

And I'm big into personalizing, so before I left for the church, I wrote on a message just for Brad on a piece of ribbon and tied it around the bottom of my bouquet.

Tara and Deric | Pen Ryn Mansion Wedding Photographer

Sugar Cookies wrapped with ivory ribbon. the initials of each bridesmaid hand-stitched onto a handkerchief. And Layla, Tara and Deric's sweet pup, confused about all the hustle and bustle surrounding her that lovely afternoon.

There was an air of eager excitement this past saturday at Tara + Deric's home. As one bridesmaid was walking through the door with her new 'do, another was taking her turn in front of the make-up artist. In the hallway, the first dress, a gorgeous J. Crew wedding gown, was hung on a door frame as it was being steamed. And the gorgeous bride enjoyed conversation and laughs with her family and childhood friends as she got ready for one of the most memorable days of her life.

Tara's engagement ring actually belonged to one of her great-grandmothers. Deric placed it in that little jewelry box with her initials engraved on top when he proposed to her.

How sweet is this face! "what's going on???"

There's something about this photo that I just love...

First Look...

Tara still wanted Deric to be surprised when he saw her walk down the aisle, so she wore a different, equally gorgeous gown for the ceremony and reception.

This photo tells a story of excitement and anticipation, and I love it. The bridal suite windows overlook the front of Pen Ryn Mansion where all the guests were arriving and being seated for the ceremony.

She couldn't be more stunning...

The ballroom at Pen Ryn Mansion is gorgeous, and the florist did an amazing job!

I'm a sucker for father-daughter dances...

...And then she ran away!!!

...but then he got her...

And now they have each other forever! Congratulations!

I just have to share a few photos of this adorable little newborn before we start the weekend! I was so anxious to meet Baby Gianna! Her parents are great clients, and as I was shooting G&R's engagement session two years ago, I knew they'd have a gorgeous little Italian baby in the future.

Who doesn't love baby feet? ...especially peaking out from a tutu!

Gianna was wide awake for the photo shoot, and although it's nice to have a sleepy baby, it was worth it to get this shot of her beautiful eyes.

She's all ready for fall!

Candace & Colin | New Jersey Wedding Photographer

He looks down the aisle with anticipation, as if he's trying to see through the wooden church doors. She's led by her father around the corner, and finally a huge smile comes across his face. Candace makes her way down the aisle in a wedding dress that fits her like a glove. Each ruffle is adorned with crystals and beads, but the most beautiful detail is the look between Candace and Colin. Their expression on both of their faces is one of love, excitement and a feeling of finally. Finally they can walk as husband and wife. Finally they are together forever and life is good.

Candace and Colin were married this past Saturday at St. James in Trenton, NJ. They had an intimate and personalized church ceremony, which makes everything that much sweeter. The ever-so-elegant cocktail and reception was held at Washington Crossing Inn in Pennsylvania right over the bridge. I absolutely adored Candace's vision to keep everything simply elegant and lovely!

Instead of a guest book for everyone to sign, Candace and Colin stayed true to their very cool, laid-back nature and had everyone sign their bench! Such a fun idea...

If you are deciding on a venue in the PA, NJ area, the Washington Crossing Inn is perfect! It was so charming, intimate and beautiful. Flowers everywhere and all the buildings have so much character and charm.

The cake cutting started off very sweet and gentle and got messy fast! Candace and Colin, thank you for letting me watch your wedding day through my lens! You two are so fun together--I'm sure you are having the best time in the Dominican Republic!

We waited out the rain and chased the sun before it disappeared below the horizon. We talked about the photography industry, business and our personal lives. We made a changing room out of her car, and when a truck started making its way up the dirt road towards us, we ran away like two little kids on mischief night.

A few weeks ago, I wrote THIS post. The following week, Kristen Swanson photographed me so that I can have updated photos for my blog and website. I had such a fun time getting in front of the lens rather than behind it, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome!

Here are the details!

1) And then he said, "Girl scouts have nothing on you!"

2) Best protein shake ever! "Watermelon Creamsicle"

Half cup or 1 cup ice

1 cup diced up watermelon

1 scoop protein powder (I use vanilla)

Sounds odd, but it's sooo good!

3) I recently discovered a little market while we were shopping at the Outlets. Only the tomatoes are completely organic though.

4) I was rummaging through all my old old CDs and thought this would make him laugh... I failed...but he loves me.

5) Yes, I made him curl up in it seconds later...but I'll save him the internet ridicule.

Christina & Alfred's Sneak Peek | El Paso Wedding Photographer

The interviewer asks her if she thinks Alfred is cute, because all the girls think he's cute. I told him no!...I didn't want him to think he was all that. When Christina talks about how they met for the first time during her interview, she laughs. And now, a few years later, when she's asked what she loves about Alfred, there's a pause...a deep breath...and a tear that rolls down her cheek...and falls onto the layers of soft, white tulle that surround her petite frame.

This past Saturday, Christina and Alfred promised each other. They promised to love, to respect and to cherish each other...forever. There is nothing more special than to be surrounded by the ones you love...and as a photographer, to watch a wedding day unfold, is simply an honor.

The ceremony was held at St. Raphael's...

The reception was held at Grace Gardens here in El Paso...

You know me...I can never decide between black and whites vs. color!

My iMovie is acting up, so I can only share one clip with you today. It's probably the best one that describes how my week has been, so here we go!

The details: We're dog-sitting Tokie and Jack, as J&P have gone on a cruise for the week! Jack is theirs, and Tokie is actually another friend's dog who is currently deployed. Sasha's been really happy to have some furry friends to play with all week long!

I can't believe it's already mid-August, and pretty soon I'll be making my trip to New Jersey! I land in NJ on September 1st and I'll be departing September 12th. Here are the details:
1) I wish I could be this little again and run around in my pajamas!
2) Rainbow, rainbow!
3) Support your Troops! Have you seen that show, "Surprise Homecoming." It's the best and worst show ever. I can't watch it anymore...too many tears.
4) I love driving over Transmountain. I thought the sky and clouds looked wild. I must have a thing for weather since we don't get much variation of it here in El Paso.
5) Our house holds two people and five computers. I remember setting up our first ever computer with my mom back in the '90s. It was a Gateway, and there were a gazillion wires. Now, it's one plug and you're set. Thank goodness!

My good friend Leah is expecting her second daughter in just about a month, and I was thrilled when she was game to be my maternity model! Along with being naturally gorgeous inside and out, this woman is FIT, and it shows. In fact, Leah has set a goal to keep jogging until the end of her pregnancy---People!, the woman is full term and exercises harder than I do. And this morning, she asked me and another friend if we want to train for a half-marathon for February. I mean...I'll think about it? She is a machine.

Anyways, I'm so thankful that she and her daughter E. came over to let me do some practice shots. The truth is, I haven't done a lot of maternity photos, and I wanted to practice a bit of indoor shooting. I hope to get lots of sweet newborn shots once this little darling makes her entrance into the world, too!

Round 3 of Video Friday, Slice of life!

I have a lot of fun putting these together because I know when I look back on these little videos later on, even a year from now, it'll be a short and sweet reminder of my past everyday life. I just wish I was better at remembering to record things! I only have 3 scenes this week, but if I was on a reality show and I had cameras following me around, then today would have been pretty entertaining because today was the second time within a week that I locked myself out of my house. Aaaand this is probably the 5th time it's happened in the past year. I have no idea why I keep doing this. So today I made two more copies of my key to give to good neighbors and friends. This will make three that we have floating around the 'hood. :::sigh::::

I'm Just Like You | Trust Your Photographer

An interesting thing happened today.

Next week, I have a photo shoot with the ever-amazing Kristen Swanson. I'll be getting some promo photos taken for my website and blog--it's time for an update! I started thinking about it and planning for it today, and I began to get SO nervous. What should I wear? I should probably get my hair cut--these split ends are taking over. Should I do my make-up myself? I need to buy a necklace. Which shoes should I wear? Ugh...I hope my face will look okay. Should I get a pedicure? Well, depends on the shoes...but we won't be taking pictures of my feet. It's so hot here...I hope I won't be sweaty in the photos.

Umm...hellooo?! I mean, of all people, us photographers should feel the most comfortable in front of the camera, right? WRONG. We are just like you. I believe that no matter if you are a photographer, psychologist, lawyer, business person...whenever you are on the receiving end of whatever you do, you're going to go through the same mental and behavioral process as your clients. I always make an effort to sympathize with my clients when they come in for their photo shoot, but I guess this is a good reminder about how nerve-wrecking it can actually be for some people. Besides a little playing around in front of the camera here and there, the last time I had professional photos taken was for our wedding in October two-thousand niiiiiine.

So, let's over come this. I want to be relaxed and confident.

First off, I think the most important thing is to trust. your. photographer! I completely trust Kristen--I mean, have you seen her work? The woman is amazing--maybe I should wear my wedding gown to the photo shoot??? =)
Second, I'll do some things to prepare. I'll lay out some outfits, try 'em all on and take my own photo in them to make sure I like how the shirt or pants or dress makes me look.
Maybe I'll try a few different hair/make-up combos.
I think I'll go through some photos of myself and pick out my favorite ones. Am I smiling in these? Am I serious? Do I have a favorite "side" of myself? etc etc...

Sure, this sounds like a lot of time to invest for the preparation of a photo shoot, but for someone who's a bit nervous like me, it's worth it. And it's not everyday or every year that I get my photo taken, so I want to make these count. If you're anything like me and you have a photo shoot coming up, try some of the above steps. It may help to ease your nervousness, and the most important thing is to trust that your photographer will do an amazing job--that's why you chose them, right?

No blog post is complete without a photo, so here's one of my favorites from our wedding--October 3, 2009.

Feeling Comfortable | El Paso Boudoir Photographer

As a boudoir photographer, I get a lot of questions like...
Isn't it awkward?
Are your clients always nervous?
How's it work? What's a photo shoot like?

In a nutshell, I always feel very comfortable with each person who walks into my studio...and very often, I hear the same feedback from my clients. It's important to note that to attain this, it takes certain steps, and not to toot my own horn, but I know how to accomplish it.

The way I see it, this is an experience for you to enjoy...an experience where I want you to bask in your beauty! From my side, behind the lens, it's completely professional. In each photo shoot, it's my goal to take gorgeous photos of you, to photograph your beauty and find the model within you. (Trust me, we ALL have a little model within us.) It's also my goal to make you feel as comfortable as I possibly can. I have ways of doing this, but the gist of it is that I'm a very friendly person, and as soon as you arrive for your photo shoot, I'm interested in getting to know you!

This topic of feeling comfortable has many layers to it, and there are a bunch of things I say to you during your boudoir photo shoot to pull out your flirty, playful and sexy sides...and with all this effort coming from me and from you, the client, the results are wonderful!

Take M., for instance. First off, you gotta love an Aries girl! Secondly, you knooow she's comfortable in her own skin...it just shows! Loved her session!

Dreams

It was around middle school that I knew I wanted to study abroad when I got to college. This was something I knew I had to do, and nothing was going to stop me. And then finally, it was my second semester of my junior year, and I was opening the old wooden windows of my dorm room in Italy. As I looked beyond the rolling hills and vineyards in front of me, I breathed in a cold, winter-y sigh of relief that my dream had come true.

Dreams...We all have them. No matter how big or small, they are just too important. Dreams are something to hope for, something to hold on to, something to look forward to, and something to turn into reality. Dreams may serve as an escape from your daily grind, and I feel this is when it's truly important to start realizing your dream and making it happen.

I think a lot about dreams and achieving goals...especially as of late. Quite a few people I know are totally going for it, and seeing their passions and dreams come to life! I met a girl named Jessica Escalante during my first few months in El Paso. She has kept a blog about all the little fun and fashion things she's obsessed with, and this August, she's realizing her dream and opening up her very own, J Luxe Boutique! A girl I know from WVU, Nesha Sanghavi, has started her own line of University Girls' Apparel. My lovely and sweet friend Natalie Committee recently came back from a year in Africa, where she taught young girls/mothers to start up small businesses in their villages. Jessica Steltzer, a girl who was in my study abroad program, has set up her own business in Chicago, where she'll be helping her clients de-clutter and simplify their living spaces and lives-- Just Simple by JS.

I could really go on and on about the exciting lives that people are creating for themselves, but this blog post isn't meant to be a plug for the above ventures. Instead, I want it to serve as a reminder to myself and everyone else that regular people like you and me are making making check marks on their Life To-Do list every single day. So...what's your dream? What will you be checking off your bucket list?

Happy Friday! Sooo...it's no secret that I'm not the best at keeping up with my blog. I'll always post photo shoots, but I guess I'm a little bit more "private" with sharing myself in other ways. I hope "Video Fridays" will help!

I first saw this idea from a few of my photographer friends in Pittsburgh. The idea is to post seven, 7-second clips from the week...fuze them into one 49-second video and share with the world! It'll actually be a short and sweet reminder of what you did and how everything was if you get to look back on these videos months of years from now.

I decided I would do this earlier in the week so I don't quite have seven clips, but I was eager to put something together and share.

And here are some details...
1) E. celebrated her 2nd birthday this past Wednesday! Last weekend we had all gone to A's pool for fun times in the sun.
2) Playing catch with Sasha in our backyard and watching the sun rise.
3) A little part of my submission to win passes for "Crazy, Stupid Love." We had to say what the craziest thing was that we've ever done for love.
4) Mmmm... Lasagna straight out of the oven.

It is my personal thought that every woman wants to feel like a woman. She wants a strong man by her side...someone who puts his arms around her and she can let out a sigh of relief and comfort knowing that he's going to protect her and hold her close for the rest of their lives.

I also believe that every man wants to feel like a man. He wants to be strong physically and mentally. He wants to be there for his family, but he also wants a woman by his side who will provide comfort and solace in their daily lives.

John & Gregg | El Paso Commitment Ceremony Photographer

Believe in all these attributes and practice them every day. Not only for those who you've known for years, but those who you've known for weeks, days or minutes. What you'll see form around yourself is a circle of friends and family who will give all these things right back to you and more.

This was exactly the scene at John and Gregg's commitment ceremony. Friends and loved ones stood around the couple, a few taking turns to speak so graciously and lovingly about John and Gregg...how they are individually, and how they are together. Tears and even more laughs were shared amongst everyone who traveled from Georgia, Alabama and here, El Paso. And then John and Gregg took turns saying their vows of commitment and love for one another. Under that tent, under the warm sun, you could not help but be swallowed up into the emotion and love of the day. It was such a pleasure and honor to photograph your day, John and Gregg. Thank you so much for the opportunity---I can only hope I did your love justice through the lens.

Christine & Joe | El Paso Wedding Photographer

I knew from Christine and Joe's engagement session that they were a very sweet, affectionate and madly in love couple. I was very much looking forward to their wedding, and it brought to light even more love and support than what I saw at our first meeting.

At the L'Art Du Luxe Salon, all the ladies and flower girls got their hair done and chatted in between sips of their Starbucks coffee drinks and good Marie Claire articles... =) ...Sweet girls

Christine kept calm and cool while getting her hair and make-up done.

Joe is already pretty calm in demeanor, and as I photographed him with his best men (as he called them), I think his thoughts were on Christine...

The excitement started to rise as Christine put her gorgeous wedding gown on with the help of her bridesmaids and friends.

Christine and Joe's son, Logan, is adoooorable, and he did not want to leave his mom's arms...look at those pouty lips!

All events were held at the Double Tree Hotel in El Paso. It's a great, contemporary venue--17th floor is the best!

As the ceremony began, I think all the ladies in the house were either thankful or wishing they had waterproof mascara on! The traditional and personal vows that Christine and Joe said to each other left everyone in the room with tears rolling down their cheeks. It was unforgettable...

Caitlin & Wayne | Sayen Gardens, New Jersey Engagement Photographer

Caitlin and Wayne hold a special place in my heart...and many of my childhood memories. When we moved from Poland to New Jersey when I was five, we moved in next door to a family that had three little boys, Wayne was the oldest. The days were spent climbing trees and the nights catching fire flies. Later that fall, Caitlin and I became best friends in Mrs. Hood's kindergarten class. She and Amanda D. offered me a red fruit snack, and I accepted. We were officially BFFs.

I can barely believe that here we are, 20 years later, with Caitlin and Wayne engaged to be married on 11.11.11. It's easy to see that Wayne and Caitlin only have eyes for each other, and at a dinner get-together last year, Caitlin said, "I know he loves me so much." He absolutely does.

I'll be a guest at the wedding, but I'm so happy to have spent some time with them to take engagement photos. We headed over to Sayen Gardens in Hamilton, NJ first and finished off at an open field right by their home. Click HERE to check out their personalized website and all the photos!

Dayna&Ben's Wedding at a Glance | Philadelphia Wedding Photographer

I typically begin a post about a couple by describing the day, along with the interactions and details that I observed. I sit here stumped because although there was lots of love between Dayna and Ben, all I keep remembering about the day is how invited we felt. (My second-shooter for the day was the lovely Jackie of Three Brooklyn Photography.) And this speaks volumes about the type of people that Dayna and Ben are, the couple that they've become together, and the families that they come from.

Even with a couple hundred guests, Dayna and Ben's wedding day felt so intimate and comfortable and "supported." When I passed someone in the hall way of the very adorable Independent Hotel, smiles, laughs and kind words were shared. When it began to rain, the groomsmen ran over to all the girls (and us!) with umbrellas already popped open.

Their kindness, generosity and love certainly didn't stop when it came to one another. Ben, very subtly, always looks after Dayna. And when Dayna kisses Ben, she does it with her arms around him tight and her eyes closed shut.

Dayna and Ben, it was such a joy to watch and photograph your wedding day. I had a great time meeting your friends and family, and can't thank you enough for all your generosity. Here's a glance at your wedding day...enjoy!

Sugar and spice and everything nice...that's what little girls are made of... This held very true for Reilly and the way she would cling onto her mother's arm and look into my lens ever so thoughtfully. Raw and Sensual Boudoir | El Paso Photography

For the past couple months, I've been making a conscious effort to make my boudoir photography a bit more raw and sensual. I want to wow my client with every single photo and bring out a different side of them. And through practice on myself and knowing the right thing to say, I have a new favorite that has emerged and I'm so happy to add it to my portfolio. This look is about you and only you. We're not particularly showing off all your goods...it's just simple and maybe one of the sexiest photos you might have of yourself...at least in my opinion.

I love it. I think it's so sexy and subtle. Thank you D for permission to share and post your boudoir photos! D is getting married next year to a man who is an amazing father and fiance. I love learning about my clients during our boudoir shoot girl talk. And I must say, I'm glad to know my girls have such great men in their lives who certainly deserve a nice little, sexy surprise.

My favorite thing about family photo shoots is story-telling through the photos. It's easy to see a mother's excitement and a father's care and pride. A child's smile and laughter makes us feel like, we too, want to be that little again.

With her mom and dad beside her, one-year old Harper has it all... Let me walk my alligators as they "clonk" in front of me. Throw me up in the air, and then catch me tightly in your arms! And I won't be signing up for a walk-a-thon anytime soon, so hold your arms out because I may need you to catch me as I get closer to you, Mom and Dad. Oh, and before I forget, please let's always sing songs together!

Make-up and Beauty | Denise Gevaras

I first met Denise Gevaras simply out of necessity. I was traveling back to New Jersey for a week, and I was planning a boudoir marathon. I knew that I wanted to have a make-up artist on hand to doll-up the clients, and I wanted to work with the best! I'm so happy that I was able to meet Denise. Not only does she have a passion for make-up artistry and has wonderful experience, but she is very sweet and kind! My clients and I are very lucky to work with her.

We have another boudoir marathon coming up on June 12th-you may read about all the details HERE-so I thought, let's introduce Denise and learn more about her! Enjoy!

Photography by Ivona: How did you get started in make-up?

Denise Gevaras: I actually started out in the skin care industry. Although I loved skin care, I found that my favorite part was the end result after doing a mini-makeover or and seeing the final result of a beautiful face enhanced with a makeup application. I love to see the look on someones face when seeing themselves made up for a special event. It still thrills me to hear "I love it"!!

I was fortunate enough to land a position working for Chanel, which was a great stepping stone allowing me to train under fantastic makeup artists as well as doing makeup applications for women of all ages and ethnicities. My freelance career really took off from that point in doing makeup for weddings and special events. I attended workshops and classes in NYC and also decided to go to school to obtain a NJ state license in esthetics. I have since done freelance work in the TV industry and am currently key makeup artist for a local TV station. I have done makeup for videos, print and TV commercials as well.

Ivona: Was this ever a dream?

Denise: Yes, the Beauty Industry was always my passion. I didn't pursue it early on and actually worked in a corporate atmosphere for many years. I took my first step away from the corporate world back in the 90's, working part time as a licensed nail techician. I think I realized my artistic ability at that time doing intricate nail art and designs. I remember my instuctor telling me she had never seen anyone do nail art with such great detail. I loved being in the salon atmosphere, the fashion, trends etc. That was my first step away in realizing my dream.

Ivona: Did you think it would ever become your successful reality?

Denise: Although I hoped it would, first starting out I honestly didn't think it could ever be something I pursued full time. I tend to be more cautious and realistic so doing makeup as a full time career didn't seem practical or something that could actually be a full time job. I never expected my business to flourish as quickly as it did and it becoming a full time job that I love.

Ivona: Where do you find inspiration and how do you stay with the trends?

Denise: I am so inspired by other successful makeup artists. I love to see the variety of work from one artist to the next. The internet is such a great wealth of information. I follow several makeup blogs and participate in several makeup forums online. And of course, following the newest trends on the red carpet and out of Hollywood is always fun. Even just flipping through a fashion magazine or watching TV, from newcasters to movie stars, I love studying the makeup on the faces I see. I love trying new products and techniques. One new technique or great product can make all of the difference. I love to learn and keep learning. I'm hoping to attend more advanced workshops offered in NYC once my work schedule eases up a bit.

Ivona: What are your favorite "looks?" Are you known for a certain "look?"

Denise: Oh, that's a tough one. I love creating looks from fresh and natural to sultry and dramatic. I think the makeup application really depends upon the overall effect the person is looking to achieve. Bridal looks, for instance, need to look great in person as well as in pictures. I find that most brides opt for a bit more than natural look but nothing over the top. The classic bridal look is a common request and I'm told quite often from my brides that they would like to still look like themselves just a little more "special" with emphasis on the eyes. On the other hand, a smokey eye for Boudoir, in my opinion really fits the mood of the photos. I think I am known to have a lighter touch even with a dramatic look.

Ivona: When you see a face, do you automatically envision the "look" you'll apply to that individual?

Denise: Quite often, yes!! There are just some looks, depending on the person's features, coloring, etc. that look better on some and not others. Of course, I always take into account what the client envisions and so I try to incorporate what they want as well as what I think would look best.

Ivona: What are your favorite products? favorite brands?

Denise: I have so many favorites!! My kit consists of several brands of pro products including MAC, Temptu, Chanel, Benefit, etc. I love MAC eye products from shadows to liner for their rich pigmented colors to long wearability. Love my Temptu airbrush foundation and highlighters!!

Ivona: If we took a peek in your purse, what would we find?

Denise: I always have tissues, blotting paper, chapstick and at least 2-3 different glosses.

Ivona: What are the essentials for a quick application for a girl-on-the-go?

Denise: Keeping it really simple... moisterizer, concealer for quick touch ups, spot coverage and undereye circles, bronzer, mascara and gloss...This shouldn't take more than 10 minutes each morning.

Ivona: How do you enhance an individual's facial characteristics?

Denise: To enhance an individual's facial characteristics, contouring and highlighting is essential. It amazes me how just a bit of highlighter can give the effect of high cheekbones, brighter eyes and less wrinkles. Contouring can slim down facial features, as well as sculpt the cheekbones and give the eyes a dramatic look.

Ivona: We all want to look younger. What makes someone look youthful?

Denise: Simply put, less is more. Heavy foundation as well as heavy under eye concealer can really build up and instead of covering and will accentuate fine lines and wrinkles. Staying away from older trends such as dark lipliner or heavy eye makeup paired with a dark lipcolor can really make a difference. Nobody wants to look "dated". If you've been doing your makeup the same way you did "back in the day" it might be time to try a new look or technique to update your look.

Ivona: What's the one beauty item you can't (and we shouldn't) live without?

Denise: Sunscreen!! Whether it be in your moisterizer or foundation, it will protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun as well as the premature aging effects. The only time it should be skipped is when doing makeup for pro photos. Flash photography and sunscreen aren't a good match..

Ivona: Liquid OR pencil?

Denise: MAC fluidline!!! Love it!! Easier than liquid and longer wearing than pencil.

Ivona: Lipstick OR lip gloss?

Denise: Gloss...easy and quick to apply. No mirror necessary!!

Denise: Don't be afraid to try something new....something as simple as new lip color can make all the difference. Makeup is fun and there are no set rules...Experiment with different looks to find your comfort level. Go for a smokey eye on a night out with the girls or a red lip with a simple black dress. Never under estimate what you can do with makeup!!

Ivona: Any additional make-up tips/tricks?

Denise: I have so many clients tell me all of the time they love makeup but never learned how to apply it. Practice makes perfect. Can't apply liner? Try using a black or dark brown shadow with a small brush in place of the liner for the same effect. Having a hard time applying eyeshadow and choosing the right colors?? Just remember to blend well. It only takes two colors to create a simple daytime look. And always remember, you can never go wrong with neutrals. Have a hard time applying foundation?? Try a powder foundation and apply with a big fluffy brush. Your skin tone will be even without any harsh lines. Experiment and have fun!!

Skin care DOs

Follow a daily skin care regimen.

Remember to moisterize daily and exfoliate on a weekly basis. Your products will work better and skin will glow.

Don't forget the sunscreen!! Use more potent products containing retinol or anit-aging ingredients in the evening.

If time allows treat yourself to a professional facial every few months.

Drink plenty of water to hydrate!!

Skin care DONTs

Always cleanse in the evening and never go to sleep with your makeup on.

Stay away from harsh products that burn or sting. They're most likely doing more harm than good.

Don't pick at anything on your face. We're all tempted, but letting a blemish heal on its own is much better than having scars that remain behind.

Most importantly, stay away from tanning beds. Spray tans and self tanners are the way to go!!

Ivona: What is one thing we can all do to enhance our natural beauty?

Denise: Take care of your body from the inside out. Exercising, eating the right foods and drinking plenty of water will not only make you feel better but look better. I believe that every woman is beautiful in her own special way. Makeup can enhance our physical features, but true beauty goes beyond our physical appearance. Look beyond your flaws and focus on the positive realizing that not everyone is perfect. Stay true to yourself!!

The Royal Wedding | Stunning

Since I woke up this morning, I've enthralled myself into the royal wedding, and so, I can't help but blog about it!
One thing is for sure...Kate looks absolutely stunning. I loooove her wedding gown. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I hoped that she would choose something that showed off her little waist because she has such an amazing, statuesque figure. The lace sleeves are so romantic and gorgeous...and I love the way the lace climbs up to her neck. Very royal and regal. I'm also not surprised that the skirt was "princess" and a little poofy...after all, she is entering a royal family! I think if she chose something that went straight down and was fitted her legs, it wouldn't seem as royal or regal. My personal opinion is that the dress needs to "match" the feel of the wedding. And she delivered! Besides the dress, Kate is a natural beauty with beautiful brown hair and striking eyes and smile. And on top of that, she holds herself with such poise and elegance. She's perfect.

I do have to add that Kate's little sister, Pippa (short for Philippa), also looked incredible in her ivory, very feminine, cowl-neck gown. I love the button-down back and the very "proper" and classy feel of Pippa's Sarah Burton dress. She looked flawless and executed her maid of honor duties perfectly.

I loved watching the entire event (thank you DVR!). Kate and Will make such a cute and lovely couple. Congratulations to the newlyweds, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge!

With his passion for people and music, Anthony started DJing when he was just a teenager. For him, music is one of those things that he would never want to live without. But it goes deeper than that. To have a love for music as big as he does, you need to dive deeper into the roots. Where did this song come from? What do these lyrics mean to me and you and to the artist?

I could see the fire when DJ Tone Capone, as he has come to be known as, began to tell me about his upcoming vacation to Jamaica. Among all the various genres of music that he listens to and plays, reggae sits towards the top. I'm excited for him to meet the people, explore the city outside of the resort and get immersed! I know he is too.

DJ Tone Capone and his business, High Definition Music Entertainment reside in New Jersey. While I was there last week, we took some time out for promo pics. I really enjoy doing fun, different shoots like this one. I wanted a very gritty and urban feel for his photos, so we drove to the perfect spot. It was also a bit of a dangerous spot, but what's a life without a little risk? We made it out with some great shots! Here are a few of my faves...

25 and Not Sitting Still

I always knew my twenties were going to be very fun and exciting. That's honestly how I want my life to be. And sometimes I feel like although I'm a very calm person, I don't like my life to "sit still." At least not yet. I enjoy moving around, meeting different people, doing different things and the thought of a life with too many daily rituals and the same conversations just doesn't sit right with me. (Side note: I'm not bashing it. That's what some people strive for and kudos to them!)

As I started my morning today, I began to reflect on the past five years. More specifically, I thought, "where was I for my past five birthdays?" Interestingly enough, none of them were spent in the same place.

My 21st was spent on Tenerife Island, part of the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa. I studied abroad my junior year and this was one of our stops during our Spring Break.

My 22nd was during my senior year of college. Once again, it fell on spring break and my friends and I were down in Panama City, FL. I got to spend it on the beach with my toes in the sand. And if you know me, you know I'm a total beach girl.

My 23rd birthday was pretty low-key. I was graduated and engaged, living in Morgantown, WV. I had never been golfing (besides mini-golfing), and I had been wanting to try it, so Brad and I rented a cart, clubs and balls and we shot 9 holes. Is this the correct golf lingo? Sorry if it's not!

My 24th was spent in Charlottesville, VA. Brad was training there for four months, so I drove down and we spent the day at the Barboursville Winery. It was a beautiful beautiful day and in the evening, we went to our favorite Charlottesville restaurant, The Boathouse, where I ordered my favorite meal, crab cakes. Yummm.

And this year, my 25th, we are in El Paso, TX. I woke up to streamers strung through out our house, party hats and a happy birthday sign. Balloons and a vase of beautiful flowers have brightened up my day even more and I can't wait for tonight once my love comes home! No photo just yet. I do have to say though, I love how I can keep track of all our special events and birthdays with photos. =)

I'm so excited to see where the next five years takes me. Where I'll be...what I'll be doing. It's been very exciting and fun, and I intend to keep it that way.

Thank you to everyone who has texted, facebooked, called and e-mailed with sweet birthday wishes! Thank you even more to those who have influenced my life, to those who have loved me for everything that I am and everything that I'm not, and to those who have continued to support me no matter what. I appreciate it more than you'll ever know.

Being Away

Being Away. It's part of my life. And it has been since I was five years old.

In 1991, my parents decided to move us from Poland into the states. We landed in New Jersey. I was there until I was 18. For college, I wanted to learn about a completely different culture with different people so I went away once again, this time to West Virginia University. During my time at WVU, I wanted to explore even more, so I studied abroad in Italy for four months. I always knew I would study abroad, even in middle school I knew. After college and after Brad and I got married, the Army said, "You're going to Texas!" So here we are. Away from all we've known, or haven't known. But it's good. It's not scary or painful for me to be away. I've dealt with change my entire life so if there isn't change, that would feel weird.

And I'm not saying that I don't miss my family. The lunches, the dinner get-togethers, the baby showers and birthdays. I wish I could be there.

However, we always know that our family and friends are only a text, phone call, wall post or piece of mail away. Everyone's still there...we're just away.

Big brown eyes and the sweetest little lips. At only two months, Baby Carlos is already a very striking boy. His very attentive mom and grandmother helped at the shoot and proud papa looked on. It's clear that Baby Carlos has been brought into a family with lots of love and care.

I could have photographed this little one all day long, especially since he slept most of the time!

Boudoir in Color

A few days ago, I blogged about black and white boudoir photography. Today, I wanted to share some other favorites from December's NJ boudoir marathon.

I must say, sometimes it's hard to choose between color and black&white. On the one hand, black and white is just classic and beautiful and definitely evokes a particular feeling. On the other hand, I looooove boudoir photos in color. There's something about the color and warmth of skin and flesh that I think is incredibly sexy.

Chills, up and down my arms...

..."I believe that we deserve a Fairytale wedding because I found my princess and God gave us 4 wonderful kids. My girlfriend of 4 years and I are in the process of adopting 4 kids abandoned by their mom. We were once saving money for a wedding, but now that our lives have changed, our goals have also. Our goal is now to save money for us to afford a house big enough for the 6 of us. While the process that we are going through is long and difficult, we would not change a thing!

The joy that we have gotten from our decision and knowing that we are making a difference in 4 lives has and will always be worth it. My girlfriend and I were discussing that we should go down to the court house to get married to have an official family once the adoption goes through. If we could have an opportunity like this to have a fairytale wedding it would mean the world, especially

because I believe that she deserves the world. This is why I believe that my family and I deserve a Fairytale wedding."

A few weeks ago, I posted about "Kara's Bridal Fairytale Wedding Giveaway." New Jersey Boudoir | Black & White Photos

Boudoir in Military Spouse Magazine

A few weeks ago, I was walking through the commissary (military post grocery store) and I couldn't help but pick up the latest issue of "Military Spouse" magazine. On the front cover was a pin-up style photo of a Navy wife and a few of the sub-headlines were "good lovin'-your sexy pinups keep him going!" and "deployment left you both cold? - reignite desire and reclaim your intimacy." How could I not want to know what's inside, being a boudoir photographer and all?!

I'm thrilled that boudoir photography is growing and gaining more attention! It really is such a perfect gift for any occasion and reason. And if you are a military spouse, this is a perfect gift for deployments, or time away from one another. One of my very first clients did a boudoir session for her boyfriend who was away at AIT training. When he was at his initial training and they couldn't talk on the phone, they wrote each other love letters so we included those in her shoot and took some "Pearl Harbor" type photos.

Another one of my clients is currently giving a year of her life to a group of girls in Africa, teaching them how to better their life...and I know she's learning and receiving a lot in return. However, before she left for her year-long trip, she wanted to make sure her boyfriend had a little piece of her. We did her boudoir shoot and each month while she's gone, her bf gets to see a new boudoir photo of his favorite girl.

So, this post is meant to inspire you! Each couple may go through times of separation whether it be a business trip, a deployment, a weekend conference, a training trip, etc. How awesome would it be to surprise your significant other with your boudoir book right before they walked out the door? You would be girlfriend/wife of the year!

A newly sewn hat to keep warm. Beautiful, big eyes exploring the blurry world around him. And two very proud parents whose love for their newborn son is evident in the way they look at him, in the way they transfer him from one pair of arms to the other and in the softness of their voice when they speak of him. "Wyatt, it means 'little warrior,'" J. tells me about the last few weeks of pregnancy as she cradles her son in her arms.

The beautiful little warrior was a stellar model on his 11th day of life, and I'd like to share a couple of my favorites from our photo shoot.

Baby Dominic's Sneak Peek | New Jersey Baby Photography

I have been waiting to meet this lil' guy since he was born on June 23rd! His mom has been a part of our family since 1991 so I was more than psyched when J asked me if I'd take photos of her "Baby D," as he is affectionately known as. I first got to hold the little guy one of the first nights I was in NJ for Christmas break and I honestly could not put him down. He is so sweet and loving and beautiful and is as happy as can be!

On the day of his photo shoot, I arrived just as he was waking up. His sweet little chubby baby hands went back and forth as he rubbed his eyes awake and a smile came across his face. We put Baby D in his first outfit and he was a champ in front of my lens. Here are a couple of my favorites. The Yankee photo is for the proud papa! Thank you so much, J&D! Sometimes you just know...just like Dayna and Ben. They met at an internship and were paired to work side by side. It wasn't until Ben had to travel for work that their relationship began growing strong and deep. So much so, that although they only spent 27 days together in their first nine months of dating, it made perfect sense for them to move in together once Ben returned to Dayna in New Jersey.

The two lovebirds make a perfect pair and I am so thrilled to be photographing their wedding in June. A few days ago, we spent the morning roaming around the very quaint and charming streets of New Hope, PA. Here are two of my favorites. =) Enjoy!

Lola in the Park | El Paso Pet Photography

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Lola, Laura's little pup. We headed to the park one day to snap a few shots and in the time I got to spend with Lola, there's a few things I learned about our furry little model...

She runs like a bunny...literally, she hops.

There's no better place than in her mama's arms. (Way better than being up in a tree!)

She's very fancy in her fashions.

And there's no one that loves her more than Laura!

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of meeting some brides and their families&friends at Kara's Bridal Planning Seminar. Kara not only has her bridal shop, but she is also a wedding planner so each bride walked away with lots of helpful information. I was there to speak about wedding photography and more specifically how to plan for the Best Wedding Photography Experience. I hope the brides found the information useful! =)

During the seminar, Kara had several wedding gowns on display. She spoke about the different styles of dresses and which one will fit your body best!

The Stanton Magazine | Boudoir Feature!

It may sound very corny, but every day I am very conscious that I am pursuing my dream job and I just feel like the luckiest girl in the world....and for that, I am Thankful. You can only imagine my excitement and "what? me?!!" moment when Jessica Escalante of The Stanton Magazine asked me if I'd like to be featured in the December issue of their online publication. "People need to know about you and your work, Ivona," her encouraging words stick with me.

I patiently awaited the release of the issue, and on December 1st, I typed in www.thestantonmagazine.com. I immediately loved the title, "Meet me in the Boudoir" and I began to read. ..."soft-spoken...self-proclaimed lover of all things sexy..." Jessica couldn't have written a more true and telling article.
